A small-time blog related to my academic and career interests
Earlier this week I went to the UM Career Fair. I had looked at the list of attending companies beforehand and picked out about 5 that I wanted to talk to. Unfortunately, one that I really wanted to talk to wasn't there; their table was empty. Of the remaining four, I only visited three because, one was very busy and only minimally related to what I was looking for. So of the three companies that I actually talked they seemed to not quite know what I meant by usability, user experience, etc., but after I explained, I think they understood. I think they may have also been surprised that I am a graduate student. Anyway, I was glad that I went eventhough most companies there weren't for me. I'm optimistic. Something good may come of it.
This morning I attended at talk at SI given by Google. Eventhough there were some things I already knew about Google, there were still some interesting things mentioned. I found out more about the user experience people and how they are divided among researchers and designers. The panelist said that if you had to pick between the two, pick the one you really want to do, which may not necessarily be the one you're really good at. For me, I think it would have to be design. Although I am not always extra creative, I like being tasked with using my creativity
My first effort at a blog is up and running after a few hours of code. It's not perfect, so I'll still be updating the frame from time to time.
